ZANZIBAR  MISSION

Zanzibar, Tanzania

Our Zanzibar Mission is the most recent mission outreach we support.

Lena Wadsworth is a missionary with Overland Missions, an international team of pioneers taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the most unreached people on the earth. Lena lives in East Africa, off the coast of Tanzania, on a small island called Zanzibar.

Zanzibar is 99% Muslim, hostile to the Gospel, and has a dark slave-based trading history. Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, began as an internal port for sending slaves throughout Africa and the Middle East. It is commonly now known as a tourist destination where sex workers and illegal drugs are prevalent.  Stone Town serves as the entry port for heroin into Africa.

But despite the many challenges there, God is redeeming the land and now it is becoming a hub for Christian revival and a sending nation, not for slaves, but for His Missionaries.

Lena works alongside a team of 11 international staff and 33 local staff (who their team has raised up through their Missions Training Program).

Lena and her local staff  are bringing the Gospel to sex workers and drug addicts all over the island.

She leads a six-month 'in-residence' discipleship program for men and women coming out of sex work and addiction.
They are seeing their students delivered from oppression and  inward healing.

Once baptized in the Holy Spirit, these disciples , being filled with conviction, passion ard equipping they are taking the Good News of the Kingdom of God to their brothers and sisters on the island. The least of these are becoming the most powerful Evangelists in Zanzibar, carrying testimonies that no person of Muslim faith  can refute.

Lena and her staff also purchased land and tend a chicken farm where the Mission Training Program students are responsible for caring for and raising chickens while also farming the land .  Their vision is to use the profits to bolster and sustain the ministry in the future.

Lastly, they are working on building a Discipleship House, on their purchased land.  The Muslim government is not favorable towards Christians, but being a land owner in Zanzibar mitigates the risk of their ministry being shut down.
